Two men charged over attack on pensioner in Rotherham

Two men have been charged in connection with an attack on a pensioner in a Rotherham street.

Mushin Ahmed, aged 81, was on his way to fajr prayers when he was found slumped on the ground with serious head injuries at 5.25am on Monday, August 10.

Damien Hunt, 29, of Doncaster Road, Rotherham ad Kieran John Rice, 21, of Oakes Meadow Road, Rotherham appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaf Ali, from South Yorkshire Police’s Specialist Crime Services, said: “Both men have been charged with section 18 assault with intent following an incident in the early hours of Monday morning in which an 81-year-old local man was seriously assaulted in an area just off Fitzwilliam Road.”

Rice has also been charged with possession of a controlled drug.

Mr Ahmed remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
