Pro-Palestinian protesters attack Maccabi Haifa players

Video footage showing pro-Palestinian protesters invading the football pitch in a friendly game between Israel’s Maccabi Haifa and France’s Lille. The protesters then attack Maccabi Haifa players and many of them retaliated.

The pre-season match in Austria was stopped when pro-Palestinian protesters stormed the pitch.

The protesters reportedly of Turkish origin entered the pitch and headed for the Maccabi players, including captain Yossi Benayoun, formerly of Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Maccabi players – many of whom retaliated – managed to leave the field before serious damage was caused.

Maccabi coach, Aleksandar Stanojevic was said to have punched a protester.

The referee was forced to stop the game in the 86th minute before eventually bringing the game to an end early.

Banners calling for the liberation of Palestine and “F**K Israel” were also displayed in certain sections of the crowd.
