Sadiq Khan attends London gay pride march

Sadiq Khan has told the LGBT community that he won’t tolerate homophobic crime.

The London mayor, who is a practising Muslim and was fasting yesterday, took part in the annual celebration of gay lifestyles despite the fact that homosexuality is clearly condemned in Islam as a sin.

Pride in London was held less than two weeks after the massacre of 49 people in a gay nightclub in Orlando. Khan said there had been a rise in homophobic attacks in London in the past year and the attack on the Pulse nightclub meant there was no room for complacency.

Tens of thousands of people marched from Oxford Circus to Whitehall in central London on Saturday to show their support for the LGBT community.
