Egypt’s President Sisi, who came to power through a military coup, has called for the strengthening of the nation state and the elimination of extremism and terrorism in the Middle East.

In a reference to the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups, he said that forces in the region were misusing religion to impose their tyranny on people.

He also called Egypt a beacon of “moderate Islam.”
