Boko Haram’s leader pledges allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

    The leader of the Nigerian Islamist militia group, Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

    The emir of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau made the public bai’yah (oath of allegiance) in a video message where he praises numerous jihadist groups in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Chechnya.

    In the concluding seconds of the short video clip, Shekau referred to the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) as “Calipha Abu Bakr al Baghdadi”.

    Last week, the group declared the area of Gwoza in northern Nigeria as part of ISIS’ Caliphate.
