A 29 year old man has appeared before a Birmingham court accused of stabbing a 15 year-old boy outside a mosque in the early hours of Saturday.

Dominic Palmer, 29, of Small Heath, spoke only to confirm his name and address during a brief hearing.

He is accused of attempting to murder the teenager who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The alleged knife attack is said to have occurred outside the Idaara Maarif-e-Islam mosque in Herbert Road.

Palmer, who is unemployed, was remanded in custody to appear before the city’s Crown Court on Wednesday.

Following the attack there was a lot of speculation on social media over the motive, with some claiming that it was sectarian. 5Pillars understands that the police are not pursuing this line of enquiry although concrete facts have yet to emerge.
