VIDEO: Imran Khan threatened with takfir by Pakistani cleric for “blasphemous speech”

A prominent Pakistani cleric has threatened former cricketer-turned-politician, Imran Khan, with a religious edict that would render him a non-Muslim for allegedly insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

Pir Muhammad Afzal Qadri has written an open letter to the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf regarding a recent speech Imran Khan delivered about the Prophet Muhammad, warning him of “dire consequences” if he fails to issue a public apology.

The open letter claims that Imran Khan had made blasphemous comments about the Prophet Muhammad “going crazy” and “imagining things” when there was a time gap between the first revelation and second revelation.

Talking to Daily Pakistan, Pir Muhammad Afzal Qadri said that if Imran Khan fails to issue an apology, the organisation will formally issue a fatwa declaring him “Wajib-ul-Qatal” (liable to death).

He said: “If the state fails to execute Imran Khan, it wouldn’t be a crime if any aashiq-e-Rasool’ (lover of Prophet Muhammad) kills him. He will be exempt from Qisas and Diyat (blood money).”
