Man attacked outside north London mosque released from hospital

An elderly man who was left with serious head injuries after being attacked outside a mosque in the early hours of Saturday morning has been released from hospital.

The man, in his 70s was targeted outside the UK Albanian and Muslim Community and Cultural Centre in Kilburn, north London.

The Managing Director of the centre, Rajab Bajraktari told 5Pillars the victim is recovering through treatment at home but his condition is poor as he has lost a lot of blood.

Mr Bajraktari added that the UK Albanian Muslim Community and Cultural Centre views this as a abnormal attack given that relations between Muslims and non-Muslims in the area are usually good. He told 5Pillars the centre used to be a pub which often was the site of drunken behaviour. Since it turned into a mosque neighbours of all faiths and none, he said, praised it for the more civil behaviour around the once noisy building.

The Met police are currently investigating the incident. No one has been arrested and police are still continuing with their inquiries.
