A suspected suicide bombing has been reported in the holy city of Madina near Masjid an-Nabawi, Islam’s second holiest site.

Video footage showed a vehicle on fire. There are no details of casualties, though the Saudi Gazette has tweeted that two have died in the explosion.

Saudi-owned al-Arabiya TV also reported a suicide explosion near the security headquarters of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madina.

Earlier, there was an bomb explosion in the eastern city of Qatif, where many minority Shia Muslims reside.

A suspected suicide bomber also died after detonating a device near the US embassy in the city of Jeddah.

The social media footage from Madina showed a vehicle on fire in a car park with two security officers lying nearby.

Some on social media are claiming that a vehicle containing gas cylinders exploded, whilst others are claiming that soldiers have been killed.
