EDL plan Slough “anti-Islamic extremism” demo next month

Hundreds of English Defence League (EDL) supporters are planning to demonstrate in Slough next month.

More than 400 supporters of the far-right group, which claims to protest about Islamic extremism, have signed up for the “peaceful demonstration” on Saturday, February 1.

It has been organised in response to Slough Borough Council approving plans for a Muslim community centre in Langley and plans for an all-girls Muslim faith-based free school in the town.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “We will be liaising with them on their plans and will implement a proportionate policing operation as appropriate. As always, Thames Valley Police will aim to facilitate peaceful protest and any groups wishing to attend the event are encouraged to contact us to discuss their plans by calling our non-emergency number 101.”
